LOW
ASH METALLURGICAL COKE
Sesa Goa's MetCoke Division operates 84 non-polluting, non-recovery
type coke ovens producing 280,000 MT of low ash metallurgical coke
per annum . The coal requirement is met through imports from Australia
and China and the coal mix is designed to produce low ash premium
quality coke. About 60% of the capacity of the coke oven plant is
consumed in house by the blast furnaces of Sesa Industries Limited.
Advantage
for Blast Furnaces: are low
coke rate, guaranteed CRI, CSR, Ash, sulphur and phosphorus, high
fixed carbon and low volatile matter and good
size gradation.
Advantages
in Foundry Cupolas:
are
high
NCK values, high metal to coke ratio, high
metal temperature, high carbon pick up and good
size gradation.
Advantages
in Ferro Alloys:
are
high
FC, less consumption per ton of output and good
size gradation.
Advantages
in Mini Cement Plants:
are
high
FC and low
ash.
The
superior quality in terms of CRI and CSR is produced as a result
of the relatively higher operating temperatures and longer coking
cycle. A special feature of the technology is the extremely low
levels of air pollution achieved as the ovens operate under negative
pressure and at a temperature at which all potential pollutants
are broken down into combustible compounds.
The
bi-product of this technology is clean electrical energy. Sesa is
in the process of setting up a 30MW power plant based on the Coke
oven fuel gas and Sesa Industries Limited blast furnace gas . It
is intended to establish the power plant on a BOO basis.
Sesa's
coke is designed for the requirements of the foundries, blast furnaces,
zinc smelters, cement and the Ferro alloy industry and offers advantages
like consistency in quality, sizing and uniform temperature thereby
reducing cold spots and metal wastage.

LOW
PHOSPHOROUS NODULAR/FOUNDRY/BASIC PIG IRON
A major portion of the 250,000 tons of pig iron manufactured by
Sesa Industries Limited caters to niche markets and VALUE ADDED
applications. We produce compositions within fairly narrow ranges
of specifications with the objective of optimising customer's costs
due to non-addition of additives, standardization of process parameters
and process procedures and minimization of rejects.
Our customers comprise some of the most reputed foundries in India
who manufacture automobile components and include Ghatge Patil Industries
- Kolhapur, Ashok Iron Works - Belgaum, Cummins India Limited -
Pune, Telco -Pune, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited - Mumbai, Punjab
Tractors Limited - Ludhiana. Majority of Bangalore and Coimbatore
based foundries like Goetze India Limited of Bangalore, CPC Limited
and Texmo Industries of Coimbatore.
Currently approximately 20% of annual production is being exported.
We also produce two grades of ductile iron grade pig iron SG50 &
SG60, which we also supply to Indian manufacturers of automobile
components.
