Narrain Mine
Overview
A Narrain is one of the largest iron ore producing mine of Sesa Goa; approximately 3.0 million tonnes of iron ore was produced from Narrain in FY2010. Current production capacity is more than 6.0 mtpa.
Background Information
A Narrain mine first commenced production in 1952; Progressive increase in the production at the mine reached 3 mtpa. It is operated in two blocks North and South block; A Narrain Mine is located approximately 200 kilometres from Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka. A Narrain mine is an open-pit operation, and is fully mechanised mining unit.
The nearest railway stations, Sasalu and Amruthapura, are approximately 16 kilometres and 17 kilometres, respectively, from the mine. The nearest port at Mangalore is approximately 430 kilometres from the mine.
