
Sesa Goa's Pig Iron business is managed through its Pig Iron Division erstwhile Sesa Industries Limited (SIL) which commenced operations in 1992. It was Sesa that introduced low-phosphorous foundry grade pig iron in India for the first time in 1992 and subsequently formalised the business under Pig Iron Division.
Our pig iron plant is strategically located at Amona and on the banks of the Mandovi River, with an annual production capacity of 250,000 tonnes per annum.
We are expanding our pig iron production capacity by another 375,000 tonnes per annum which will make our total pig iron production capacity of 625,000 tonnes per annum post the current expansions.
HistoryIn 1992, the first phase of the 150,000 tonnes per annum pig iron plant was commissioned and in 1993, Sesa Industries Limited was launched for the manufacture of pig iron and generation of electrical energy. In the same year, Sesa Kembla Coke Company Limited took birth for the manufacture of low ash metallurgical coke. In 1995, the RIVA group acquired ILVA International and in the year after, the pig iron businesses were consolidated under Sesa Industries.
Sesa Industries Limited is engaged in the manufacture and sale of Pig Iron. The facilities consist of two Blast Furnaces each with a working volume of 173 cubic meters. Annual production is 250,000 tonnes of Pig Iron and 60,000 tonnes of slag which is dried to 2% moisture and sold for use in the cement industry.

Sesa Goa Limited holds 88.3% of the equity of Sesa Industries Limited with the remainder having been issued to the equity holders of Sesa Goa Limited on a Rights basis
