
Codli is the largest iron ore producing mine of Sesa Goa; Over 7.0 million tonnes of iron ore was produced from Codli in FY 2010. Current production capacity is more than 7.0 mtpa.
Background Information Codli mine first commenced production in 1973; Progressive increase in the production at the mine reached 3 mtpa by 1995. Codli is situated in South Goa, approximately 50 kilometres east of Panaji, the capital of Goa. Codli group of mines are open-pit operation, multi-pit, multi-lease fully mechanised mining units.
The nearest railway stations, Sanvordem and Margao, are approximately 13 kilometres and 40 kilometres, respectively, from the mine. The river loading points at Sanvordem and Capxem are approximately 12 kilometres and 14 kilometres, respectively, from the Codli mines while the port is approximately 40 nautical miles from the river loading point.
