SESA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

The Sesa Community Development Foundation was constituted to foster development within communities local to our operations. It currently comprises the following activities:

1. NICOLA CORVO MEMORIAL SESA TECHNICAL SCHOOL
2. SESA FOOTBALL ACADEMY
3. OTHER COMMUNITY INITIATIVES

1. NICOLA CORVO MEMORIAL SESA TECHNICAL SCHOOL

The school located at Sanquelim was started in 1994 The students have achieved exceptional results in State examinations every year. In the last two years, all students passed with first class results and some received Awards of National recognition.

Selection of the new 56 students for the school each year is based on merit . All students from Goa are eligible, however candidates from the areas in which we have our operations are given preference.

The students pay a nominal fee of Rs.1500 per annum. Besides the structural curriculum for the trades of Fitter, Mechanical, Instrument Mechanic, Multiskilled Electrical and Multiskilled Mechanical, they participate in other extracurricular development activities.

On graduating, the students are usually placed either in the Sesa Group or in the local manufacturing industry .

2. SESA FOOTBALL ACADEMY

The Football Academy also located at Sanquelim accommodates 30 students for a period of four years. The academy is residential, the students being provided lodging free of charge. The Curriculum includes normal high school academic training in local schools and intensive sports and physical education training in the academy . The Coach and Assistant Coach of the academy live in the premises and there are also facilities for specialist visiting coaches.

Graduating from the academy requires both academic and sports (football) excellence. After passing out, the students can aspire to join the Goan professional football ranks or pursue another career.

3. OTHER COMMUNITY INITIATIVES

Apart from the above formal community development initiatives, need based community programes are also launched to meet community needs.

Educational aids and books are distributed to needy students in local schools. Health camps are conducted in which expert medical advise and free medicines are provided to local communities.

Agricultural demonstration camps to introduce new agricultural practices and women self help groups are also promoted to develop income generation activities in the surrounding communities.
